-name?
Steve Whitehouse

39!!!(but, my wife says 6)...

in front of my computer.... which is currently in Toronto, ON Canada...

-What is Whitehouse Animation Inc.?
the home of Mr.Man...(among other things)...

-Where did you get the idea for the Mr. Man series?
I was jamming with an experimental noise band (BONEPUSHER) one night... while listening to the tape afterwards, I was looking at a piece of dada-ish art that my friend, Steve White (no kidding), had made which was on the wall at an angle to where I was sitting...
and that's where I first saw "the Man"...
I quickly grabbed a scrap piece of paper and drew him as I saw him... I then got up out of my chair and as I approached the wall hanging, the shapes that had previously made up the image of Mr.Man came into focus and turned out to be bits and pieces of metal and wood and old electrical diodes... in their undistorted perspective, they looked absolutely nothing like the image I had just sketched...

-What do you use to create your animations?
Flash 4...

-How did you hook up with halfempty.com? Didn't you have affiliation with another website before halfempty?
someone sent me their URL almost two years ago because it had Flash animations...
(I've worked in traditional animation for over 15 years...Care Bears, Babar, Beetlejuice, Duckman, Sam & Max)...hence the interest in web animation... what struck me first at halfempty was James Paterson's work...very beautiful!... he was in charge of BLINK (the space that featured the animations)... I mailed him asking if I could put my stuff on it...(Warholvis and Da Vinci Blues)... he liked what I was doing and eventually asked if I wanted to be part of the collective!... and they've been extremely helpful and supportive ever since....

-I like your Mother's Day card, was it really banned?
well, not banned exactly....
which brings up the question, can something actually be banned on the internet?...
it's just that shockwave.com (who had accepted every card previous) rejected it...
I then offered it to Hallmark but, their 'taste police' didn't want it either!..hahah...
there are a lot more 'disturbing/offensive' cards out there...
in fact, it's not disturbing or offensive at all...I just think they somehow didn't 'get it'...

-What's in store for the future of Whitehouse Animation Inc.?
dunno...
continue to try to eke out a living doing what I love to do for as long as I can...
I'd like to do more collaborations with people who's work I respect and admire... the latest being "BIRD, BUG, GOAT"...a piece with comix great Dave Cooper for CartoonNetwork...

-What are a few of your favorite sites on the web?
I don't really have that much time to 'surf' any more...
these days I usually just check out the recommendations that people send me... but, one site I always go to is: www.antennaradio.com -excellent shows weekly...jazz, punk, weird, electro-acoustic, electronic, japanese, blues, psychedelic etc... love to listen to it while working or doing the morning crossword puzzle... other that I would recommed are on the links page on the site

Thanks Steve- you rule!
